I'm looking for a cheap E30 street car to build a race car. I know it's cheaper to buy a finished car. I don'thave the dough to put down all at once mostly in part because I race in another series currently. I do all my own work including cages. I'm looking for a basket case as long as it's solid and mostly rust free. Thanks

Where are you at, Ray? Craigslist seems to be the best place cause there are fewer enthusiasts who want 5 grand for a 25yo car.

I'm in Northern NJ. I checked craigslist all over jersey and PA. I'm surprised how few cars are out there and how expensive these 25 yr old cars are. I was actually hoping to pick one up for under $1k. I'm rethinking my budget and may be willing to go higher. I priced out a pre-bent cage from Kirk racing. They emailed me pics of a cage they offer mounted in a car. I was very impressed. Any way, I'm still looking.

Yah, that's probably unrealistic in this market. Typical $500 car needs 1-2k in body parts or driveline.

Helps to have alot of contacts who are scouring the interweb. I looked 5 months before a friend shot me a CL add for a car in OH (I'm in Chicago) for 1200. 325is that came with a busted motor, and a 60k motor. After selling off the decent interior, extra motor(s), trans, and diff, it should end up free.

Good luck!

There was a 325is abandoned at a garage a friend of mine owns. He was looking to get it gone. No title, but you don't need one for a race car. I haven't seen it, but Chuck has built a dozen SCCA race cars over the years so he can give you a good description. Shop number is 717-665-7100, ask for Chuck, zip code is 17545.

I contacted Chuck in PA. Sounds like a good candidate for a car. However, he said he needs to get the title for legal reasons and doesn't see getting it for a couple months. Left him my info. I'm still looking. I'm picking up a body, suspension and 2 transmissions this weekend. I'm still looking for a parts car though. Thanks

Picked up 2 cars. The donor car is a running IS convertible 5spd. The other is a 325is shell. The shell came with 2 transmissions. I'll sell them to recoup the money that I paid for 1 of the cars. Next up is to clean the body and weld in all the reinforcements.
