Just wondering if anyone's interested in this type of racing. Does anyone like cross country running or track and field?

I'm a distance runner and I do a 5'50 in the mile, and my best 3km cross country run was a 13'02, on a 3km with barely any hills.

My goal in my senior year in track is being the fifth person in the United States to run an under 4'00 mile in track. 3'50 is my goal. I think I can do it if I train enough.

If anyone is interested:

What was your fastest mile? Did you do other events? If so, what?

I prefer a conveyance of some sort to haul my lazy arse around.

My fastest mile was a 6:05 in 1981 as part of my one and only sub 40 10K.

I still run about 5 miles every day to stay fit for DEs. I haven't run a timed 10K in probably 8 years. I lived in Atlanta for 9 years and ran a bunch of 10Ks every year including the Peachtree. What an event. :D

My goal is to keep putting on the running shoes for at least another 30 years, and not get too much slower. In my 20s and 30s I ran sub 7 minute pace. Now I have to push to get under 8:30. Damn that sucks.

Alan

p.s. I turn 54 later this year. Oh, and I'm 15 pounds over my ideal running weight. (That sucks too.)

Sounds like you're still in good shape though. I run 3k's, 5k's, and 10k's every now and then.

Today I had a track meet and (in a 25 mph headwind) dropped my mile to a 5'44. Without the wind I would have gotten a 5'38 or so.

I ran a 6:07 in high school and could've gotten under 6:00 if I kept training but I gave up for a while. Ran cross country in middle school with numerous ribbons including a 6th (out of nearly 100) at the season ending division championships. Haven't done anything competitive in a while, but still out and about, staying in shape. Gonna hike Mt. Whitney this summer.

When I was 14 I ran a 5:07 for my personal best mile. The following year my knees blew up and I haven't run since. I always wanted to break the five minute barrier, but had to quit. I took up cycling and now get my cardio that way.

I'm working towards that barrier. I ran a 5'48 today at my Mound City meet. I'm going to try a 4'50 in my Sophmore year.

I do a bit of cycling myself, mainly BMX, but I do mountain biking occasionally, and I've done a few road races with my music teacher, who signed me on his team for three races last year.

5:56 for the mile when I was 15. Never really was a distance runner though...

This was just when I ran track in HS to get faster and in better shape for football. Did teach me to run low 10s in the 100 yarder... Ran a hand-timed 4.48 40 yard once football season came around...

Man, those were the days... :D
